GLP-1 Fast Food Guide: What to Order at 15 Chains Without Nausea

The three rules that make any chain work

  1. Protein first, 25-40 g. Grilled chicken, eggs, steak, beans. Protein protects muscle on a GLP-1 and is the one macro you will under-eat by default. See the protein guide.
  2. Fat under ~20 g. Fat is what sits in a slowed stomach for hours. Fried coating, mayo, cheese sauce and bacon are the usual offenders behind sulfur burps and nausea.
  3. Half portion, 20 minutes. Fullness signals arrive late. Order small, eat slowly, stop at 80%. Most of the vomiting stories are "I ate my old order."

Nutrition figures below are from chain-published data, rounded; menus change. Sit-down restaurants are covered in the GLP-1 restaurant guide.

Chain-by-chain notes

Chick-fil-A

The easiest chain on a GLP-1. Grilled nuggets are almost pure protein; 8-count (130 kcal, 25 g) suits lower appetite on 7.5 mg+, 12-count (200 kcal, 38 g) for a full meal. The grilled market salad with light vinaigrette is the best salad in fast food. Avoid the fried sandwich (440 kcal, 17 g fat) and every sauce except the zero-calorie ones.

Chipotle

Build a bowl: chicken or steak, no rice or half brown rice, black beans, fajita veggies, pico, lettuce. That is ~350-450 kcal with 35-45 g protein. Queso, sour cream and guacamole each add 100-230 kcal of mostly fat. Burritos and chips are volume problems.

McDonald's

Breakfast is the win: Egg McMuffin (310 kcal, 17 g protein, 13 g fat). Later in the day, 6-piece nuggets with apple slices, or a plain hamburger (250 kcal). Big Mac (590 kcal, 34 g fat) and medium fries (320 kcal, 15 g fat) are the classic nausea combination.

Wendy's

Grilled chicken sandwich without mayo (~370 kcal, 34 g protein) or a small chili (170 kcal, 15 g protein, high fibre — go slow if constipation-prone). Skip the Baconator (960 kcal) and the Frosty.

Subway

Six-inch, lean protein (rotisserie chicken, turkey), wheat or wrap, load vegetables, mustard or vinegar instead of mayo. Footlongs are a volume trap even when "healthy".

Taco Bell

"Fresco style" swaps cheese and sauce for pico. Two chicken soft tacos Fresco is ~300 kcal, 22 g protein. The Power Menu bowl without rice is another option. Nacho fries and Crunchwraps are fat-and-volume items.

Starbucks

Egg bites (two, ~300 kcal, 19 g protein), oatmeal with nuts, or a protein box. Drinks are the problem: a grande Frappuccino is 400+ kcal of sugar and dairy fat that can trigger dumping-like symptoms. Americano, cold brew, or a tall latte with non-fat milk. More in GLP-1 and coffee.

Panera

Half portions exist for a reason — half a Mediterranean or Caesar bowl with chicken is 300-350 kcal. Soups in a cup (not bread bowl). Pastries and mac & cheese are the dense-fat items.

In-N-Out

"Protein style" wraps the burger in lettuce; order no spread. A single hamburger protein style is ~240 kcal, 16 g protein. Double-Double with fries and a shake is 1,500+ kcal.

Burger King, Popeyes, Panda Express, Five Guys, Dunkin', Jersey Mike's

Burger King: Whopper Jr. without mayo (~320 kcal) or grilled chicken where offered. Popeyes: blackened tenders are grilled, not fried — 3 for ~200 kcal, 26 g protein — with green beans. Panda Express: grilled teriyaki chicken (300 kcal, 36 g protein) with super greens instead of rice or noodles. Five Guys: the "little" hamburger lettuce-wrapped; even a small fry is 500+ kcal. Dunkin': Wake-Up Wraps (~190 kcal) and black coffee. Jersey Mike's: any sub "in a tub" (no bread) at mini size.

What triggers nausea at the drive-thru

  • Fried coating — fries, nuggets, fish, onion rings. Fat plus volume.
  • Creamy sauces and cheese — mayo-based spreads, queso, ranch. 10-20 g fat per serving.
  • Sugary drinks and shakes — rapid sugar load into a slow stomach; also pure calories.
  • Eating fast in the car — fullness signals are delayed on GLP-1s; you overshoot before you feel it.
  • Alcohol alongside — the most-reported vomiting trigger. See GLP-1 and alcohol.

Protein targets by dose

Where you areTypical appetiteFast-food strategy
Starter dose (0.25 mg / 2.5 mg)Mildly reducedNormal small order, protein first, no fries
Mid titration (1 mg / 7.5 mg)Strongly reducedProtein item only; 8-count nuggets, 2 tacos, half bowl
Maintenance (2.4 mg / 15 mg)Often very lowPrioritise protein density: grilled nuggets, egg bites, blackened tenders

If you consistently cannot reach 60-90 g protein a day from food, a shake fills the gap — see protein bars on GLP-1 and best GLP-1 snacks.
